The hospital that I worked at when I retired was really a fun place. Big hospital and we had lots of nursing staff in our department. Because we were so big we had a lot of races, sexual orientations and ethnicities represented. For Christmas one year we decided to make home made gifts for each other. Mine was to find old CDS with cool, funny, unusual faces, back them with cork and — coasters. They turned out so great and everyone loved theirs. Did I mention that we were a fairly irreverent bunch of people who were all missing their politically correct buttons and had no sense of good taste. some got the CD cover that REALLY suited them. We had so much fun. The guys came up with some of the BEST ever gifts. We also had every religion imaginable represented. Jewish, Muslim, Christian, etc. another Christmas it was decided that it was not politically correct to decorate the departments for “Christmas”. So no decorations would be allowed. So we all brought in decorations and ornaments and other things that represented their religion and Holliday celebrations. We had lights and “STUFF” of all kinds all over the nursing station area. The patients loved it and believe me, many of our patients needed all the laughter and Holliday hilarity they could get. Administration came down, looked around, shook their heads, smiled and closed the door.

We work a lifetime. It is so important to like what you do and work at being a cohesive group where everyone has your back if you need it it. Sort of like a marriage. Goodness knows I spent more time with my co-workers than with my family.
