Discouraging gain.
RA diagnosis yesterday.
Topping off a laundry list of medical issues.
Frustrated.
Working on a plan to get a grip on my weight.
Exercise plan is blank. Pain in feet makes walking so difficult. I so want to set up my pool and do some swimming.
Putting this out there in hopes of some food advice that may alleviate inflammation. Web searches are confusing.
Wishing my FS friends and wonderful day and extending many thanks for sharing your ideas and experience.
Much love!

Best wishes on progress on your health issues. (I have many too and they are annoying.)

Sugarplum, thank you and all of the best to you! I suppose learning to get on after a diagnosis is the toughest part. Once I feel that I have some control, I’m sure that a lot of the frustration will ease. I’ve done it with other issues, it’s just a matter of finding a niche.

Try daily dose of Turmeric supplement

Aside from wheat and sugar, other foods that cause inflammation include: Dairy products – The intake of dairy can disrupt the cells of the guts, which will increase the permeability of these cells. This will allow foreign substances to move into the bloodstream and trigger an immune response. Processed meats – The consumption of meat, like sugar, is linked to an increase in CRP. Aside from this, meat intake is also linked to more arachidonic acid, a mediator that promotes inflammation. Fried foods – A study revealed that diets containing plenty of fried foods are linked to an increase in inflammation markers. Omega-6 fatty acids – Although it is necessary for growth and development, excessive intake of omega-6 fatty acids is bad for a person’s health. These fatty acids, which are found in soybean oil, vegetable oil, and mayonnaise, trigger the production of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the body.

I also take 500 mg of tumeric (spice and/or supplement) daily for joint pain. I got it approved by my MD.

You could look into the Whole30 plan. It’s an anti- inflammatory way of eating, created with those who have auto immune issues. They have a reg version and a vegatarian version. The book that explains it is called “ it starts with food” . Maybe your library would have it. The book explains why and how certain foods cause more inflammation than others. Blessing on your health journey!

Dlady I need to read up and understand more on that. I’ve heard that gluten isn’t good for inflammation Thank you!

Liv thank you! ❤️ Swimming is one exercise that I know I can do pretty much pain free. Got to get moving, I haven’t been well, I believe that the garden statue in my yard gets more exercise than I do 😂

It's probably old advice and not useful, but I stopped having sciatica and other aches and pains when I quit flour. Simple 8 dollar supports in my shoes stopped heel pain. Usually they advise lots of water and green veggies. Good luck and I hope you find the key to easing these conditions. Everyone is different and different things work for them.

I have a sciatica issue as well...my cousin is a chiropractor. He recommended icing the area, NOT HEAT, then 800mg of ibuprofen as well as walking or moving in some capacity. I also asked him about CBD for inflammation, he said the topical oil takes a while to really start working, but many people use it for the pain. I have to say that walking does actually help. I know that once the weight comes off, i will not have this pain, but to get to that point, I have to move, which causes pain. Sigh. Sometimes I wonder why the heck i did this to myself! LOL! BUT, you have to look forward, not back. It happened, so now it needs to be fixed. Don't get frustrated over a gain. It's temporary. Cutting out gluten will help as well as incorporating things like blueberries, avocado and fish in your diet. There is so much better food out there you can change up, and some GREAT recipes online to make them super delicious! I cut out most sugar and simple carbs from my diet. I'm down about 55 lbs in 3 months and I FEEL so much better, both mentally and physically. I still have a lot left to go, but you also need to set little goals along the way. Every time I knock out 5 lbs, I'm happy! I also try to weigh myself once a week, not every day. Every day would completely discourage me because weight can fluctuate, even by something like having a full bladder or colon. Sorry for being blunt, but it's the truth! LOL! You have a great day! Don't get discouraged...it's just a bump in the road. You'll be ok! :-)

Jenhoven - Love your post. It follows very closely the treatment advice I received from Dr Winters MD about 1980 when I started getting excruciating muscle spasms. Motrin was not otc at that time, and he gave me 800 mg tablets by prescription and also stated ICE only. I had bad muscle spasms until about 2010 and "out of the blue" they calmed down and I rarely get a mild one. (And my kidneys passed as in perfect shape from a Kidney MD, in case you were wondering.)

I know I have posted this previously on my condition. I won't go into all the specifics except to say I was in a lot of pain with all the osis's, Osteo, osteophytosis, Stenosis. I started at a gym and after a couple of years the pains had decreased a lot. I don't do the gym any more (Covid and gym has shut down now), but I no longer have any pain other than with my age (almost 82) the brief pains that come and go as quickly as they came. I do a 15 minute morning workout: pushups, plank, ab roller and stretches. I also hike a lot and have a 10,000 step a day minimum. I realise we aren't all the same and what worked for me may not work for others. Best of luck to you.
