Keyten I make my own - it lasts up to six weeks in the fridge. So one horse radish root found in the produce section usually around the ginger root and peppers. Peel, chop, food processor then blender with white vinegar, a very little salt and hint of sugar. Be very careful if you've never made it before. The fumes can be powerful. Open the processor away from your face in a well ventilated kitchen. This is my fav you tube on it. This guy is hilarious. https://youtu.be/X8UTwSzc4XY

I haven't eaten a sardine in over fifty years (Except fresh, in Portugal), but I liked them when I was a child. I have no idea which ones to buy. Any suggestions?

Thank you JC, Denny, Jami, Shir, Crash & Mrsrobo.. I'm going to make a confession here. I love horseradish, I really do. But I had never given any thought to the nutritional benefits of it. I did the google because my inspiration Keyten does it all the time so I copied her method. I will admit I also did it because of my post yesterday about the weight gain I wanted to know for myself if it was a contributor as I usually have it 3-4 times a week.

While I didn't know about the nutrition I did know about this: Horseradish is typically paired with fattier, richer cuts of beef (not only prime rib, but also often on roast beef sandwiches) because the astringent taste helps "cut through" the richness, making the beef feel less heavy and easier to eat. It's also thought to stimulate peristalsis – the bodily reflex that moves food through your stomach and intestines. A big meal of heavy meat can be a recipe for indigestion, so horseradish can help your body to "keep it moving" in this way.

And another reference: Over time, horseradish became so commonly accepted by Ashkenazi Jews as the traditional Passover bitter herb, that when they moved to Palestine and started growing it, they referred to it by using the ancient Hebrew word for lettuce, which appears first in the Mishnaic list of bitter herbs: hazeret.
