My blood sugar will continue to rise for about 2 hours after eating. However, it will go down after 4 hours if I have not eaten anything. My issue is when it spikes to 150+ and then comes down to 110 and then stays there. I eat again and it shoots up again. I spend the entire day between 115-120+ If I do that for say 3-4 days in a row I put on 5-10 pounds. Perhaps you're different... I hope so!

Same thing happen to me yesterday after walking fasting. When we exercise glucose is released from our muscles into the blood stream. This is good. Then body can use excess body fat when reserves are depleted.

Glucose stored in liver and muscles. So anytime we exercise it's all good.

New to the site today. I've been prediabetic for 20 years and had gestational diabetes with all three pregnancies. This last pregnancy I learned about the Somogyi Effect and the Dawn Phenomenon. Learning strategies to counter these automatic processing in my body, is how I was able to bring my morning BS to a normal fasting level.

twintiger, yup, two different things good you learned about them 👍

adefwebserver I bet I'm like you. I haven't eaten since dinner egg and beef yesterday around 6. got on elliptical for 15, but this time it didn't really drop much 😟 I'm 1 hour post elliptical and it's still 96. this will be a learning experience . I know exercising can increase glucose sometimes so I've read lol.. we'll see.. thanks for the input.

if you're eating meat everyday and active, it's normal for Fasting glucose to be slightly elevated... the body produces glucose on its own and this improved over time with exercise (meaning it may go up a bit more) diabetes is not a glucose disease, it's an insulin based disease. I'd be more curious to know your a1c and insulin. Insulin is often super low with a higher than, "normal" Fasting glucose. "Normal" relative to people who keep their insulin raised for 12-16 hours per day.

yes dividing your ketone level into your glucose give you the number if I understood that correctly.

jedarojr ok, I'm following you. let's see how my body adapts, thanks. Baskington, here's what you were talking about I think. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/fasting-blood-glucose-higher

yes but esmee gave a formula to divide keytone level to the blood reading to see where your ac1 is or something like that. I don't know how accurate it is. being carnivore I was looking for carnivore info instead of just regular peoples blood sugar. Bear consistently ran in the 100 fasting range, he did not check his all the time like you all do, his was all doctor related. he was not worried about it he had the ac1 to go with it. when you are totally keto adapted you tend to stop getting ketones in the urine and the body uses them. difference between keto adapted and ketosis. maybe Dr Fung talks about that too somewhere.

Baskiongton I recall that too when listening to Ketohacking MD, if I hear it again I'll let ya know, but I don't have a ketone meter!!! I did order a breath thingy to see how I'm burning ketones . At least it will give me a personal reference range.

baskington adefwebserver this makes sense too. the guy was having his BG raise during the day. ... “Low insulin levels activate hormone sensitive lipase. Fatty tissue breaks down and releases non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA). These are mostly taken up by muscle cells as fuel and automatically induce insulin resistance in those muscles. Palmitic acid is the primary NEFA released from human adipose tissue during fasting. Think of palmitic as a signal molecule to tell the muscles that inhibition of glucose uptake is needed and to tell the liver that increased gluconeogenesis is required because there is no food coming in.” this will increase glucose levels

there you go I think this is all that I was trying to direct you to. a lot of the science is over my head but I understand it as it is explained. keto adapted is different then ketosis and you have different ways the body feeds the muscles. carnivore is keto adapted long term.

@jenjabba - When I have a *fasted* Blood Sugar reading of 79 and then go for a 5 mile run, I will come back with a BS reading in the 80s or even the low 90s. This is gluconeogenesis, happens to me all the time. But, gluconeogenesis is 'expensive' and 'slow'. I have never hot 100 with this method, and come back in an hour and it will already start to fall (I know it should not make a difference, but I think the lack of digesting food is the reason it doesn't follow the usual pattern). Again, this is when I am *fasted*. If my BS is from consuming food, exercise will make it go down not up.

wow adefwebserver it's making sense. And digestion factors in too. amazing

Driving home (I have a 1 hour drive), I was so tired I started falling asleep. I get home and check my BS and I am at 76! While it would have been a great experiment to not consume anything, I had a Protein drink with heavy cream and a HUGE shot of electrolyte concentrate. I then went to the gym. I got home and I am now at 100. But, this is not 'fasted' so I do not feel this is 'gluconeogenesis'. I feel my body burns high protein like carbs. I do not expect any weight loss tomorrow...

you might be surprised Adef you definitely burned off whatever calories you ate and will burn more sleeping.

@baskington - I wish! Didn't lose yesterday :( I agree I may have burned the calories, but didn't 'move any water'.
